some people are just so good at presenting themselves. it can be a little depressing. their lives look so tidy. so put together. so perfect. and it's hard for me not to compare myself. not to do a mental side by side, tallying up their accomplishments next to my own. and i almost always fall short. and it can so easily make me feel flawed. and grossly inadequate.

reading this was just the reality check i needed.

"We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are."
- Marjorie Pay Hinckley

i'm still working on that level of maturity. the level where i can honestly say i'm not trying to prove anything. the level where i truly recognize that life is not meant to be tidy, put together, or perfect. the level where i can be completely content with what i am.

  1. What a great quote! I love Sister Hinkley so much, she is my role model! Thanks for posting that!

  2. That quote is complete truth! It is so tough not trying to prove things. I had a moment about a month ago where I truly realized the quote (not as beautiful as that of Sister Hinckley)about cleaning and dishes can wait but hugs and kisses can't. I feel best when my house is put together and tidy, but I'm learning slowly that one day I'm going to look back and wish that I spent more time rolling a ball to Dalton or building with blocks to let him knock it over etc. I can't tell you the difference it made in my life....I still have a long way to go to get to the women Sister Hinckley speaks about.

  4. Beautiful photo!
    And the quote is great!
I think we all need reminders that who we are is more than enough.
It is trying to be 'who we aren't' that gets exhausting.
