Say love with tiffin!

When I was a camp counselor we used to gather outside to eat our lunch.
The kids would each bring their paper sacks filled with what was mostly processed snacks.

But among them there was a cute little Japanese boy who unfailingly showed up with one of these.
Always it was filled with the most delectable lunches presented in the most appetizing ways.
Sometimes it was as simple as rice and meat and vegetables, sometimes it was as elegant as sushi.
But always it was a work of art.
And always there was a tasty little treat resting on top.
And it most definitely always put the other kids sandwiches, chips, and juice boxes to shame.

I sat there everyday coveting this small boys lunchtime masterpieces.
And wishing I too were the proud owner of such a box.
Ever since I have been longing for a tiffin or bento box of my very own.

They are, however, hard to come by.
And when found are always priced a little on the steep side.
Always there has been some reason why we couldn't be together.

Until March of 2011 that is.
When we -hubs and myself- mutually decided to forgo anniversary gifts,
and instead fulfill my lifelong dream for tiffin.

We are now the proud owners of this matching pair courtesy of plastica!

Aren't they pretty?
Due to a shipping mishap they were not on time for our winter picnic,
But now we have an even better excuse to picnic more often.
(Besides the beyond obvious fact that we love lunching out of doors.)
I can hardly wait to break them in!

Here is a little peak at the tiffin anatomy for you:

They are grand. Just grand I tell you!

  1. DWR, also sells a tiffin, all metal though, I too have been coveting them for a couple years now and am kicking myself when they were on sale a few weeks ago. Congratulations on your new purchase, and many exciting picnics to come!

  4. Oooh, I love those metal ones! I was torn between these and those more traditional ones. They are oh so pretty.

Crystal, that is so funny and exactly how I felt after first being introduced to these babies! And the fact that hazel wants to have a play-date with Ryan is just making my heart melt. So cute!
